Volunteering
THEY NEED YOU. WE NEED YOU. VOLUNTEER TODAY.
Much of what we do at St. Hubert’s to save animals’ lives and give them a second chance depends on the help of our dedicated volunteers. Volunteering is fun and rewarding, and a great way to help homeless animals.
If you are a resourceful, reliable, positive and resilient individual who can commit to at least 8 hours a month of volunteering over a six month period, we would love to talk with you about joining our team!
Please note: for students in need of community service, we are happy to verify hours once the minimum requirement of 50 hours has been completed.
Volunteer Positions:
Please note that all volunteers are required to complete at least 6 hours in non-animal handling roles such as kennel/cattery cleaning or laundry before being trained to work with our animals. Teens can volunteer in non-animal handling roles beginning at age 16; some positions are reserved for volunteers who are 18 years old or older.
Kennel/Cattery Support
Assist staff with morning cleaning in the cattery or kennels. This critical, and rewarding, position is an essential part of caring for the animals. Shifts are available every day from 8:30 to 11:30 AM.
Helping Hand
Assist with laundry, make enrichment treats for the dogs, or sort donations, all important ways to support our staff every afternoon.
Buddy's Pet Supply
100% of the store’s net proceeds support the animals at St. Hubert’s. Help customers find the perfect toy, gift, or supplies during adoption hours and work the register. A minimum of two shifts per month is required.
Dog Walker
Assist in exercising the dogs throughout the day. Must be 18 years of age or older, successfully complete training, be able to handle medium to large size dogs, and commit to a regular dog walking schedule.
Feline Friend
Feline Friends spend time socializing the cats at the shelter to keep them happy and help them become more adoptable. Must be 18 years of age or older.
Vaccine Clinic Volunteer
Assist with our low-cost vaccine clinics in underserved local communities. Each clinic attracts 100 to 250 pet owners, and volunteers play a vital role in keeping the events organized and efficient. Clinics are held on Saturdays in the spring, summer, and early fall. Must be 18 years of age or older.
Community Events
Engage with the public at community events and talk about St. Hubert’s programs and services, including volunteering, fostering and community outreach opportunities, as well as adoption of the animals at the shelter.

Group Service Opportunities
The group project that is most beneficial for the animals is to hold a donation drive of pet food, toys, and other needed items. These donations allow us to provide pet food to animals in need in our community, as well as benefit the animals in our care. When you’re ready to drop off your donations, we would be happy to schedule a tour of our Madison shelter for your group (of up to 12 people). You can find our current wish lists here. If you would like to request a tour to coincide with your donation drop-off, please email volunteers@sthuberts.org.
