ST. HUBERT’S VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES 

Assistant Kennel Attendant - Volunteers that are 16 years of age or older are needed to help the staff in the kennels and cattery EVERY DAY.  Primary responsibility is helping keep the kennel/cattery area clean and will include: cleaning food and water bowls, cleaning cat cages and kennel runs, laundry, sweeping lobby area & hallway, storing food donations.  Shifts are available every day 8:30–11 AM at both Madison and North Branch Facilities.

Assistant Trainer at Dog School - Assist professional trainers in all levels of basic classes at Dog Training School. To qualify, candidates must be a graduate of St. Hubert's Basic Class(or an approved alternate program) preferably within the past few years; be able to take direction & have a desire to learn.   Time Commitment: 4-hour time slot once/week for the length of the class (generally 8 weeks) a variety of shifts are available including evenings and weekends in both Madison and Bridgewater.

Canine Coach – Help shelter dogs become more adoptable by working one-on-one to socialize and train them. To qualify candidates should be 18 years of age or older, in good physical condition, have an understanding of canine behavior; basic dog handling skills and have completed basic training (with your own dog) within the past 2 years.  Time Commitment:  2 hours/week between 10 & 12 noon for a minimum of 3 months.

Clerical Help - (Madison location only) Volunteers are needed to assist with mailings, putting together packets, data entry, phone calls and other duties as needed at our Madison shelter.  Help is often needed at the last minute – an e-mail is sent out to volunteers who have indicated they are willing to help.

Doggy Day Camp Counselor - (Madison location only) Volunteers that are 18 years of age or older are needed to play and socialize with our Camp Dogs (dogs who have owners, but leave them to play).  These dogs are very active, so volunteers should be relatively fit or have a high energy level.  This is an outdoor activity and is subject to the weather.  Shifts are 8–10 AM; 10-12 AM; 2-4 PM  & 4-6 PM,  Mon – Thurs.

Dog Walking –Volunteers 18 years of age or older are needed to exercise our shelter dogs.  Candidates should be in good physical condition and comfortable handling dogs of varying size and energy levels.  Should have knowledge of dog behavior and complete an orientation session with experienced dog walker.  Time Commitment:  1 hour every one or two weeks. Hourly shifts are available everyday.

Event Help - Volunteers are needed throughout the year to help St. Hubert's host a variety of fundraising events.  Duties can include distributing fliers, set up, break down, staffing tables, traffic control, registration, dog monitoring and more. 

Feline Friends – Feline Friends spend time socializing our shelter cats during one hour shifts.  You should be an experienced cat person, 18 years of age or older and comfortable handling cats with a high stress level.  Two orientation sessions with coordinators of program are required.  Time Commitment:  1 hour every one or two weeks for a period of a minimum of 3 months. 

Foster Care for Shelter Animals - Volunteers are needed to provide temporary homes for special-case shelter animals that may be sick, too young to thrive in a kennel environment, or need to recover from an injury.  Socialization and care are needed to increase the animal's chances for successful placement.  Volunteers must have the ability to isolate their shelter guests from pets living in the house.  Foster application on-line.  Foster Care training classes offered throughout the year.

Humane Education - Volunteer Instructors are needed to help teach young students and scouts basic information about dogs and cats.  Qualifications:  enthusiasm, a sense of humor, and flexibility during the day.  A background in education is helpful but not mandatory.  Attendance at teacher training workshop is required.

Paws For People Program (Pet Therapy) - Spend quality time with your pet while sharing your special bond with children and adults in schools, hospitals and day care/long term care facilities.  Dogs and cats at least one year old who have excellent temperaments are invited to apply.  Other domestic animals can also be evaluated.  Handlers younger than 18 must be accompanied by adult.  Attendance at a 3- hour workshop is required prior to having your pet evaluated.
